Asanuma is an underclassman to Mamoru at Moto Azabu Junior High, and is also good friends with Makoto. Asanuma is in the same class as Mamoru, and highly admires Mamoru and everything he does. According to the Materials Collection, Asanuma is an only child and lives in Sendaizakaue.
Asanuma once caught Mamoru healing himself when he got a wound playing soccer. He also talked with Makoto in the Black Moon arc, and found out that she wasn't a normal person. Throughout the whole Black Moon arc, he is constantly worried about Makoto.
In SailorStars, he appears for a short time. Usagi asks him if he heard from Mamoru, and Asanuma got worried when Usagi said that she hadn't got anything but cards (like playing cards) from who she thought was Mamoru, but is later revealed to be Seiya. (Sailor Star Fighter)
